May I suggest not reinventing the wheel and using oscommerce 
( http://oscommerce.org/ ) ?
You can have a look at some live shops using OSC at :
http://www.oscommerce.com/shops/live
This is a 10 minute install to a fully functionnal e-commerce website,
linked to a bank account, paypal account, anything you want. After two days
of getting accustomed to it, you're ready to use it professionnaly.
I can do it if you like, I know this tool well enough.
