Would the X11 "blank screen" (the single-pixel checkerboard pattern it uses)
be useful?  I've always thought of it as a monitor test, but maybe useful
for a video card?

Also, a few months ago, a there was a lot of talk about gamma correction.
Would displaying colors (or greys) that are gamma-adjusted linear gradients
be useful?
