Hi everyone! I'm back from some mail routing issues that got all open-
graphics posts diverted to spam, so I can now read stuff again. Is
there anything going on in Verilog that I could help with? I don't
have any experience writing graphics drivers (I've only read Linux
Device Drivers' first few chapters since all I needed was a simple
char driver), but I am willing to learn if there is need (all though,
given that I don't have experience there is probably not any need for
my code :-)).

Anyway, back to the question at hand. I am not sure but making all 2D
graphics use OpenGL would require the use of Xgl, correct? or would
all of the 2D GL calls occur at a lower-than-X11 level? Using OpenGL
for 2D as well has obvious benefits (ease of interface, simplicity of
drivers, reuse of code, speed, etc) and no real drawbacks that I can
think of (if implemented at a low level).
