Don't most BSD/Linux use gas? I just checked the man pages for as(1) on
NetBSD and FreeBSD and they both say "AS - the portable GNU assembler".

That's the point of my syntax swapping utility suggestion. And being able
to use either gives a backup in case we run into a bug/limitation. Should
be an easy project for some software person who wants to help the project,
but isn't up to writing a major CAD tool.

I think I got freedos to boot inside bochs once. Ran DIR a couple times,
which exhausted my knowledge of DOS, so I went on to something else. :-)

Is it just me, or does that sound perverted and scary to anyone else?
