I think everyone can agree that it is not worth it if that is the case.
Depending on how big the 3D engine turns out, I would be willing
to have software OpenGL along with hardware 2D accel and h.264.
Some other cool stuff would probably fit. Maybe even a configurable
coprocessor - since this would (probably) never be made into an ASIC.

What levels of H.264 should we support to make an implementation  
worthwhile?
Probably either High or Main.

I can try it out over here with my 3Ghz P4D. What software do I need?
 From what I understand, "HD" DVDs are only 720p. Where would I get
a 1080p source to decode?
