I think that 'finalizes' is really stretching the truth here.

What is proprietary? Or, in other words; afaik there's no proprietary
-anything- so leave that out ;)

That sounds flimsy. But I can't come up with something better right
now. Maybe something like the student is allowed to finish the
project if there's little time left and the student was making good
progress, otherwise (s)he'll be reassigned to an other project.
